These popular, UK based mini expeditions will take you into some of the most remote and beautiful areas of the UK. You’ll experience a mixture of on and off road driving over a variety of terrains with some steep ascents and descents. Don’t worry if your vehicle is not fully equipped - these weekends are designed to help you determine what enhancements are actually needed. However it is advisable that your vehicle is fitted with underbody protection as a minimum. The weekend’s are intended to be non-damaging to you, your vehicle and the environment, however some tracks may result in minor scratches to your vehicle. Our support teams will be on hand to help you if required. The routes used are all public vehicular rights of way and have been reconnoitred in advance by ourselves.

Your companions for the weekend are often new to off-road driving and vehicle expeditions but some will have travelled or are intending to travel, with their vehicles in the near future. There will be opportunities during the weekend for workshop sessions on winching, recovery, navigation and other topics that you may wish to raise. Children and partners are welcomed on the weekend and the pace of the weekend is geared to provide plenty of opportunities to stop and let young co-drivers let-off steam! Needless to say, the evenings will be spent around an open fire amongst friends, with a drink in hand, talking travellers tales under the stars.

We're sure, that as well as giving you the opportunity to use your vehicle, you’ll find it stimulating in generating travel plans for the future.

Driver training

These mini expeditions are a great way to experience vehicle dependant expeditions and for you and your family to decide if this is for you. While extensive off road driving skills are not needed some basic skills are desirable. For general driver training and familiarisation with your vehicle I recommend Land Rover Experience driver training, find out more and access special offers at www.landroverdriving.co.uk.

Specialist equipment - vehicle

A well maintained and serviced 4x4 vehicle fitted with some underbody protection. A CB radio is highly desirable. Tyres of either All Terrain or Mud Terrain tread patterns are most suitable. A winch is not essential and additional fuel cans are not needed.

Specialist equipment - camping

Either roof or ground tents are suitable, along with 3 season sleeping bags and mats or camp beds The weekend is self-catered, using either your own stoves or the common campfire and you will need to bring all food and drink with you. A Thermos flask is useful for preparing your own hot drinks and you should bring your own chairs, table, cutlery and utensils. You will need warm and windproof outer wear, wet weather gear, strong boots and a set of dry clothing. To minimise our impact on the often unique and fragile environment we will be travelling through, all waste and refuse needs to be disposed of appropriately - so please bring a bin bag, toilet roll, a lighter and a trowel!

Typical Itinerary

Days will start and finish with time for cooked breakfasts and dinners and we will stop as needed for  comfort, photo stops and for a snack lunch on both days. We will collect the evening’s firewood as we progress. I will give a short driver briefing on the days route and hazards before we leave our campsite on each day.

We will leave the site after breakfast, normally around 09.30 and spend a full day driving. We will be in camp by approx 17.00 that evening.
